Evidence-Based Practice in Supported Employment

People working in supported employment.Purpose: To provide hands-on learning for employment service providers who are interested in implementing or are in the process of implementing evidence-based Supported Employment for people with mental illness as described in the SAMHSA Toolkits.

There are many definitions for "Supported Employment" in the field. Supported Employment, the evidence based practice, is unique in that it is based upon 7 well-researched, guiding principles. This workshop will describe each principle and how it differentiates SE from other traditional vocational practices, how techniques developed under the guidelines of the fidelity scale lead to quality outcomes and what it takes to be a strong Employment Specialist.

About the presenter:
Amy Miller is Senior Director of Training for Goodwill Industries of Greater Grand Rapids. Amy has been involved in supported employment efforts for persons with disabilities for 19 years. She is currently involved in the ongoing SE implementation in Kent County and is focused on technical training of staff, integration and outcome measurement. She is also a member of the Supported Employment Network of consultants and trainers via the Evidence Based Practices Center at Dartmouth College and is privileged to work with a number of different organizations and counties throughout Michigan on their SE initiatives.
