MiJob is SAFE: Promoting a Safety Culture for Michigan's Workers

MiJOB is SAFE
is a statewide program that develops and delivers workplace safety and health training to MARO members. Funded by a grant from the Consultation Education and Training (CET) Division of MIOSHA, this training can be presented both on-site, in person, and as customized, DVD-based programs. Produced using digital video and still photography captured at the community rehabilitation organization's facility, training clearly and graphically represents workplace hazards and safe work practices for community rehabilitation organizations, the workers they serve, and the staff who support them.

Offering creative strategies to make the workplace safer, MiJOB is SAFE presents training to suit the requirements of the target audience, with programs that employers can retain and utilize on an ongoing basis. Such targeted, relevant, site-specific safety training is available through no other resource for organizations serving people with disabilities and other barriers.

TRAINING TOPICS ADDRESSED IN THE FY08 GRANT:
ERGONOMICS for both Industrial and Office Environments; strategies for reducing overexertion and repetitive motion injuries
BACK INJURY PREVENTION Risk factors & approaches to prevention; posture and body mechanics, workstation design, stretching and exercise
BLOODBORNE PATHOGENS Diseases which can be spread through contact with human blood, the Exposure Control Plan, Universal Precautions, and proper protective measures
LOCKOUT/TAGOUT The process of controlling hazardous energy, identifying potential sources, isolating devices, and lockout procedures
HEARING CONSERVATION Noise in the workplace, hearing protection, audiometric testing
SAFE DRIVING STRATEGIES Accident causes, pre-trip safety issues, critical elements of defensive driving, transporting passengers with special needs
