Government Relations Through the distinguished Lansing-based lobbying firm of Muchmore-Harrington-Smalley, the association works with the legislative and executive branches of state government. MARO advocates for legislation and policies that increase vocational opportunities for persons with disabilities and other barriers to employment. MARO meets frequently with officials from the Department of Community Health, the Department of Labor and Economic Growth and the Department of Corrections to promote the services provided by its members. MARO also provides training and resources for members to develop their grass roots lobbying skills.

The MARO Update provides members with topical information on issues affecting their organizations including legislation and policies, grants, seminars, meetings and employment opportunities. The Update is sent via e-mail to MARO members on a weekly basis.

Salary Survey The association conducts a biannual salary survey of community rehabilitation organizations. The survey covers 45 job titles and reports minimum, maximum and starting salaries in four agency budget categories. The survey also reports 14 benefit categories.

Membership Directory This online directory lists all members with links to their web sites.

Safety Training MARO staff provide safety training for organizations working with people with disabilities and other barriers to employment. Topics include: Bloodborne Pathogens, Ergonomics, Job Safety Analysis, Safety Committee Activities, Right to Know as well as others. This service is free to Members of the MARO Workers' Compenstion fund and for a reasonable cost for other MARO members. Contact Todd Culver at the MARO office to schedule a training in your agency.

Professional Development and Education MARO sponsors frequent seminars and conferences addressing current trends and practices in the field of rehabilitation. Recent topics have included Job Placement, Self Determination, Micro-Enterprise Development, CARF Standards, Time Studies, Performance Measurement and Wage & Hour Compliance. The association holds an annual Spring Management Conference and is a co-sponsor manager of the Michigan Rehabilitation Conference along with the Michigan Rehabilitation Association.

Workers' Compensation Coverage MARO administers a self-funded, group workers' compensation program. In operation since 1988, it has saved members millions of dollars in premium costs for worker comp coverage. To learn more go to: MARO Workers' Compensation Program.

Energy and Telecom Group Buying Discounts designed to help lower the cost of electricity, natural gas, and telecommunications services. Through the association’s agreement with Affiliated Power Purchasers International, LLC (APPI), MARO members will now have the opportunity to participate in the Energy Buyers Program and the Telecom Savings Program. Affiliated Power Purchasers International, (APPI), independent energy and utility consultants, identifies and implements options to manage and reduce the costs of each member's energy and utility services. Members pay no upfront, hourly, or retainer fees. APPI is only compensated when it demonstrates and delivers savings and/or refunds.
